Actually, what we learn in school is very much like the reality. I mean it's not just some theoretical that doesn't exist in our everyday life. In fact, I just realized today that conflict of interest is very common.
In finance classes, they tell us about the conflict of interest that exist in corporations -- how stockholders, debtholders, and employees differ in their interest. They have come up with many different 'solutions' such as the stock compensation plan for employees, but there are always loopholes that make the solutions not so much the answer anymore.
Conflict of interest exists in much less complex situations too, like in our personal lives and school lives. Again all these go back to the human nature of selfishness. Yesterday I just watched a discussion about people who are too greedy and harm themselves in the end on CNN. They mentioned big CEOs like those of WorldCom, Enron, and some other giants. They are already making much more than what they can spend, but it's still not enough for them. They still go through all the trouble to find loopholes in the system and try to make themselves a few million buck. I guess it doesn't make much difference to them, in terms of money, but more of the sense of accomplishment (?).
Anyways, going back to our problem, I am sure we can work something out which benefits everyone. Be considerate, learn from those CEOs and don't make the same mistake. But I guess the problem lies in ourselves. Sometimes we just get too involved and driven in the things we do that we lose our ground. That's why we need others around us to bring us back to earth or slow us down when we're too far ahead of ourselves. I feel like I don't know what I am writing anymore. Too out of point liao.
Oh, last thing. My horoscope for today says "The one thing you have power over is your own reaction." I think that's so true.
Already, any comments will be much appreciated. :)

Quotes
"You just gotta do it," she said. "You just gotta get out there and seek those things out for yourself. Life is definitely a roller-coaster, it's an adventure and it's just all about how you participate in it, if you choose to participate in it, and about going out there and having a good time and good things come to you."
"Let me tell you something you already know. The world ain't all sunshine and rainbows. It is a very mean and nasty place and it will beat you to your knees and keep you there permanently if you let it. You, me, or nobody is gonna hit as hard as life. But it ain't how hard you hit; it's about how hard you can get hit, and keep moving forward. How much you can take, and keep moving forward. That's how winning is done. Now, if you know what you're worth, then go out and get what you're worth. But you gotta be willing to take the hit, and not pointing fingers saying you ain't where you are because of him, or her, or anybody. Cowards do that and that ain't you. You're better than that! "
